Health Message (October 31, 2026)
Good Sabbath Church Family,
This is the season for pumpkins, yams, and sweet potatoes. How do these benefit
our health?
All three are excellent foods, but if we had to rank them nutritionally here is some
info I gathered:
Sweet Potatoes - Highest in beta-carotene and vitamin A. They also have
Vitamin C potassium and fiber.
Pumpkin - Very low in calories and packed with antioxidants that help protect cells from damage. Pumpkins are especially rich in beta-carotene, which your body converts to vitamin A. Vitamin A supports healthy vision, immune function, and skin health.
Yams - Great source of fiber and energy. Also, a good source of fiber, potassium and Vitamin C.
These autumn foods remind us of God's provision through the harvest season. Just as these humble roots and fruits nourish the body, God's blessings often come through simple, everyday gifts. As Ellen G. White wrote:
"Nature and revelation alike testify of God's love."
The abundance of nutritious harvest foods is one more reminder of the Creator's care for our physical and spiritual well-being. Enjoy them baked, steamed, or in soups rather than heavily sweetened versions to receive the greatest health benefits.
Your sister in Christ, Sandra Torres
