A New Season for Our Health

Scripture: 3 John 1:2

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." As summer gives way to fall, we are reminded that change is a natural part of God's design. And just as nature moves into a new season, we have an opportunity to move into a new seaon with our health. Summer may have been a season of travel, celebrations, vacations, cookouts, late nights, and perhaps a few more treats than usual! But the beginning of a new season gives us an opportunity to pause and ask, "How am I doing--not just spiritually, but physically?" Because our health matters to God.

Think about the leaves.

When autumn comes, the tree doesn't try to hold onto every leaf. It lets go of what it no longer needs. There is a health lesson in that for us. Sometimes we need to let go too. Maybe we need to let go of habits that aren't serving our bodies well.

Maybe it's too much sugar. Too much processed food. Too little water. Too little sleep. Too much sitting.

Or perhaps we've allowed ourselves to become so busy taking care of everyone else that we've forgotten to take care of ourselves.

Sometimes taking care of our health isn't about making a dramatic change. It's about making one healthy choice at a time.

Think about the farmer. A farmer knows that what he plants today affects what he harvests later. Our bodies work in much the same way. What we eat, how much we move, how well we sleep, how we handle stress, and whether we give our bodies time to rest--all of these things matter.

We don't have to become perfect overnight. We simply need to start planting better seeds. Maybe this fall we drink more water. Maybe we add mor fruits and vegetables to our meals. Maybe we take a daily walk. Maybe we establish a better bedtime. Maybe we finally make that doctor's appointment we've been putting off.

Small choices, repeated consistently, can produce significant results over time. And here's something important: Taking care of our health isn't vanity. It's stewardship.

First Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and that we should glorify God in our bodies.

God gave us these bodies. So caring for them is one way we can honor the Giver. We don't take care of our health because we want to live forever on this earth. We take care of our health because we want to be available for God's purposes while He gives us life.

We want the strength to serve. The energy to help others. The clarity to make good decisions. And the vitality to enjoy the blessings God has given us.

So as we move from summer into fall, let's make this more than a change on the calendar. Let's make it a new season for our health. Don't worry about changing everything at once. Choose one thing. And most importantly, stay connected to God. Because true health isn't just about what happens to the body. It is about the whole person--body, mind, and spirit.

So this fall, let's release what needs to go, cultivate what needs to grow, and prepare ourselves for whatever God has ahead.

A new season can be the beginning of a new choice. And perhaps today is the day to make yours.

To Your Health!
