Happy Sabbath Saints!
Drink More Water!! I know you've heard it many times, but I find seasonally I struggle at the beginning of a new season to keep my water intake up to standard. Remember to work at it gradually. First determine how much water you should drink daily. Daily recommendations for water intake for men is 124oz a day which is nearly 8-16oz bottles of water. Women need 92 oz daily which is nearly 6-16oz bottles of water. However, that can vary considering any particular health issues, your weight, whether you work outdoors or your exercise routine. If you are in doubt ask your doctor. You must stay hydrated to stay healthy and energetic!
Here are a few other things to consider: Mild dehydration can cause headaches, fatigue, depressed mood, increased anxiety, constipation, decreased memory and concentration. If you're thirsty you're already mildly dehydrated. Older adults have a lower volume of water, and they have a diminished ability to sense thirst and minor illnesses can result in dehydration for them.
Simple ways to increase your water intake: infuse water with fresh strawberries or slices of orange, lemon or cucumber; connect a water habit to your routine (drink after you brush your teeth, before showering, drink 32 oz before leaving the home}; eat some water by consuming fruits and veggies, such as watermelon, grapes cantaloupe, lettuce or celery; set a reminder on your phone or high tech water bottles that track your intake; and carry a water bottle with you.
Water helps your body lubricate joints, deliver oxygen to all parts of the body, aids with digestion, flushes out body waste, helps the brain create neurotransmitters and hormones, works as a shock absorber for the brain and spina cord, regulates body temperature through sweat and adds moisture for mucus membranes.
“Water is the best liquid possible to cleanse the tissues.... Drink some, a little time before or after a meal.”—Ellen G. White, Healthful Living, p. 226. I think it goes without saying that water is an especially important part of any diet and lifestyle. Water is one of the eight main health principles that Adventists base their diet on. Water is the foundation of our body and brain so it’s extremely important to drink enough of it!
Let's drink water for good health!
