Health Message (May 03, 2025)

Happy Sabbath Saints,

Today we are looking at gardening. Many of us are in apartments or renting rooms, but whether in your backyard or at a community garden or patio, cultivating plants has amazing benefits for you. You can get helpful gardening tips from farmersalmanac.com and garden.org.

Five most popular homegrown vegetables are tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, beans, and carrots. Children who help grow a garden eat more vegetables. Daily gardening can reduce the risk of dementia by 36%. Humans flourish in nature. Pretty much everything about nature has a positive effect on us in some form.

Digging, planting, raking, and weeding engage your major muscle groups, including your arms, legs, and core. It burns a similar number of calories as going for a walk or doing Pilates.

Gardening 2 hours weekly significantly improves serotonin levels, boosting your mood. Working with plants helps alleviate feelings of anger, sadness, and stress.

No green thumb? No problem! Try these easiest-to-grow plants: tomatoes, cucumbers, mint, chives, basil, and lettuce.

Remember Genesis 1:29: “Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the earth and every tree that has fruit with see in it. They will be yours for food.” Let’s enjoy them.

Blessings, Sandra Jackson
