Health Message (June 13, 2026)

Good Sabbath Church Family,

Are you getting enough sleep? Did you know the following about your sleep time?

Sleep is a divine necessity, not optional: "Many people take sleep for granted, but getting a good night's rest should always be prioritized. While you're asleep, your brain works hard to clear mental clutter, regulate your hormones, and restore your energy levels. Additionally, quality sleep strengthens your immune system, sharpens focus, and helps you feel more confident and capable. On the flip side, poor sleep can contribute to anxiety, low self-esteem, and even depression. Getting good rest is about being a good steward of the body-temple God gave you. In the Bible, even God modeled the importance of rest by creating the world in six days and resting on the seventh. If you're eager to get on a better sleep schedule, start by aiming for consistent sleep and wake times, even on weekends. Avoid screens at least an hour before bed, get some natural light during the day, skip caffeine altogether, and avoid heavy meals late at night. God desires healthy, spiritual warriors. Can He count on you?" (Counsel 23. EGW)

Good sleep strengthens mental, emotional, and spiritual health: "The importance of regularity in the time for eating and sleeping should not be overlooked. Since the work of building up the body takes place during the hours rest, it is essential... that sleep should be regular and abundant."

A well-rested mind is essential for being an effective disciple of the Lord. Beyond the physical, mental, and emotional benefits, consistently getting 7-9 hours of sleep enhances spiritual growth, making it easier to absorb teachings that support meaningful evangelism.

In addition to spreading the good news, deep, restorative sleep promotes self-awareness and spiritual discernment, helping create a mental environment where you can hear God's voice more clearly. Quality rest also strengthens trust and dependence on God by reducing mental clutter and releasing daily worries that may disrupt sleep. When we prioritize restful sleep, we are better attuned to God's presence and guidance in our lives, deepening our spiritual connection. In this state, we're more equipped to embrace His purpose and share His love with others, making sleep not only a physical necessity, but also a spiritual took in our journey of faith." (Counsel 25. EGW)

Sleep is essential to our good health. May we each take care to get the sufficient amount of time for good sleep.

Your sister in Christ,

Sandra Torres
