Good Sabbath Church Family,
With the summer approaching we will be eating a lot more fruit as strawberries and peaches come into season. I did some research on some guidelines for fruit eating from the inspired writings of Ellen White:
Ellen G. White did not specify a single fruit that was the best for our bodies, but she did give some general principles and examples of fruits that she considered healthful and beneficial.
According to her writings, some of the criteria for choosing fruits are:
They should be fresh, ripe, and in season.
They should be varied and adapted to the climate.
They should be eaten alone or with grains, but not with vegetables.
They should be preserved by drying or canning in glass jars, rather than by using sugar or tin cans.
Some of the fruits that Ellen G. White mentioned favorably in her writings are:
Apples, which she called “the king of fruits” and said they were “excellent brain food” and "beneficial to the stomach".
Grapes, which she said were “the most valuable of all fruits” and had “a powerful influence in removing disease” when eaten fresh or as juice.
Oranges, which she said were “one of the finest fruits for health” and had “a soothing effect upon the nerves” when eaten moderately.
Fruit makes our bodies happy and is always a better choice than sweets.
