Good Sabbath Church Family,
I saw an interesting article from Web MD (https://www.webmd.com/). And it caught my attention because the author of the article seemed surprised that there would be a link between spirituality and our health. What we know about the Godly experience we get to encounter when we commune with God far surpasses their speculations. The article begins with questions:
"Why do older people who regularly attend religious services appear to live longer and have better health? Is it something about the type of people they are? Or is it something related to their visits to churches or synagogues-- perhaps increased contact with other people?"
A growing body of research is beginning to define the complex connections between religious and spiritual beliefs and practices and an in individual's physical and psychological health. No one says it's as simple as going to services or "finding religion" later in life. It may be that people who are more involved in religious activities or are personally more spiritual are doing something that makes them feel better emotionally and helps them live longer and more healthily. The question, researches say, is what exactly are they doing?" Web MD.
It is not emotion about God that brings us better health, it is a connection with the Well Spring of Life Who feely gives new life. He is the source of life and health and without Him we slowly begin to die.
"As with life, so it is with growth. It is God who brings the bud to bloom and the flower to fruit. It is by His power that the seed develops, "first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear." Mark 4:28. And the prophet Hosea says of Israel, that "he shall grow as the lily." "They shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine." Hosea 14:5, 7. And Jesus bids us "consider the lilies how they grow." Luke 12:27. The plants and flowers grow not by their own care or anxiety or effort, but by receiving that which God has furnished to minster to their life. (Steps to Christ)
God is the source of life and light and joy to the universe. Like rays of light from the sun, like the streams of living water bursting from a living spring, blessings flow out from Him to all His creatures. And wherever the life of God is in the hearts of men, it will flow out to others in love and blessing. (EGW)
