Happy Sabbath Saints,
Why DIY is good for you, 8 surprising health benefits of Do-It-Yourself projects. Besides saving money these projects have other benefits for us to explore.
1. It improves problem-solving skills. Following instructions, starting a project from scratch, and trouble-shooting challenges all improve your problem-solving skills. It will increase your ability to think critically in other situations too.
2. It creates more creativity. Creativity fosters a sense of purpose, boosts your immune system, and reduces anxiety and depression. It strengthens the connectivity between the left and right brain which leads to higher cognitive function.
3. It lowers stress. Focusing on the task at hand causes you to experience a meditative state of concentration and heightened awareness, which helps you disengage from everyday life stressors and experience a calming "state of flow."
4. It gives a boost of happiness as well as mood, especially when the project is finished and you are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and capableness.
5. It builds confidence. Completing the project builds your sense of self-sufficiency, which creates a sense of stability and confidence.
6. It increases gratitude. These projects give you a greater sense of appreciation for the things you have. Once you've devoted your time and energy to something, it means more to you. That sense of gratitude can lead to better sleep, lower blood pressure, enhanced empathy, and reduced aggression.
7. It lowers financial stress. Doing a project yourself is less expensive than calling a pro. By relieving some financial stress can help fend off the feelings of anger, fear, despair, and shame that often accompany financial worries.
8. It strengthens your brain. Learning something new keeps your brain young, slows the rate of cognitive decline, and reduces the risk of dementia.
God was creative with us. Ephesians 2:10 "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them". We are meant to be creative as our Father in heaven was.
Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than unto men."
Blessings,
